Concept of page

This is specifically intended to be a handy reference to playable, new and recently updated Roguelike (and vaguely roguelike ;-) games.

  • 7DRL games are excluded unless they continue to be updated after the initial 7 days. This is to avoid them crowding out others in the list.
  • Alpha games are only included if they have a somewhat playable download.
  • No download available means no listing.

IRLDB

Having checked out IRLDB in more detail, there are only three problems I can see with it.

  • Only contains data from games included in RogueBasin
  • Only contains data given in templates used in RogueBasin (e.g. Angband template has no language information).

If that was changed then it might well be best to replace this page (and probably a few others) with output from IRLDB. PaulBlay

Older than 12 months

Removed games from the list that were last updated more than 12 months ago. Such games are listed at Recently Updated Roguelikes/archive.

Add authors column

Why not to add column of authors? --Sindikat 10:16, 20 May 2009 (CEST)

Basically because the table is wide enough already. People can see the author on the RogueBasin page for the game or on the game's website (both linked from the table). You can see a table with author name at the IRLDB if you want. PaulBlay

table css

Colouring the rows manually is just ridiculous, I get some css for you and if one of the admins could put that into the stylesheet that would be great:

tr:nth-child(odd) {background: #ffffff} tr:nth-child(even) {background: #efefef}

Turns out admins can add new CSS to MediaWiki:Common.css, I found more instructions and examples here.
I'll recommend adding this one:
table.alternategrey tr:nth-child(even) {background: #E9E9E9;}

Sort by date

If the list was, by default, sorted by date, the list would be much easier to update with new games and it would be easier to remove old ones. Even now that I've changed the date format, sorting by date doesn't work because days are first and months are spelled out. I would be willing to go through and either manually sort the list by date or change the date format again to year-month-day (e.g. 2017-06-30). This format is less readable but can be sorted by the arrows on the table. Note that if the table is manually resorted, readers would still be able to sort them alphabetically this way. The best way to sort dates would be to use data-sort-type="date" as shown here but this didn't work when I tested it. The standard way to format dates would be to use templates such as Date or ISOdate so that date localization is handled but these templates were missing when I tried them. --HexDecimal (talk) 07:04, 11 February 2022 (UTC)

Umoria - a fake entry?

To be well understood: Umoria is a valuable historical game. But the peculiar entry in this table of "Recently Updated Roguelikes" seems to be an abuse. Well, let's call it a prank. The wikilink points to "Moria"; no new versions anywhere. Did I miss something? Due to the facts I'd like to remove the table entry "Umoria" if there are no reasonable vetos. -- Gus Van (talk) 22:40, 4 September 2018 (CEST)
